SLAM Membership Explained

If you are already a SLAM Member, you will know how this works!  If you have recently done your Advanced Riding Course, you may not be quite as clear, so hopefully this will explain how SLAM Membership works.

SLAM are an IAM RoadSmart Local Group, governed by the rules set out in the IAM RoadSmart Group Handbook. The rules relating to membership that SLAM observe are as set out in our constitution as an IAM RoadSmart Local Group, and a registered charity.

Simply put, this is how SLAM Membership works:

• To be a member of SLAM you must be a fully paid up member of IAM RoadSmart.
• To take part in SLAM events, you must also be a fully paid up member of SLAM.
• SLAM Membership costs only £10.00 per year, and must be paid by Standing Order directly into the SLAM bank account.
• The annual subscription is due on 7th April each year.
• Anyone not paying their fee in a timely and reasonable manner when requested will be excluded from SLAM Membership, which means they will not be able to take part in SLAM organised events and rides.

For new Members just completing the Advanced Riding Course:

• Once you are enrolled on the Advanced Riding Course, you are an Associate Member of SLAM, able to enjoy most of the benefits of membership, and able to take part in SLAM organised events and rides (conditions apply).
• Once you have passed your Advanced Test, you are eligible to take out full SLAM Membership.
• To become a full member of SLAM, you need to pay £10 immediately (by bank transfer only), AND put in place a Standing Order to pay £10 per year from the next 7th April.
• Once you do this, you will be able to collect your SLAM logo-ed High Viz vest (the Oxford Vest retails at £39.99 currently) and take advantage of all the other SLAM benefits.
